Well, if the medical practice or your medical income is dependent upon you then if for whatever reason you are unable to work what happens?
So I like to think that my business can operate on its own. I have a great team which allows me to not work on Fridays and I am about to hit 7 weeks of leave since the year started.
But it fell apart in the last month or so. Because something strange happened – I fell ill.
You will notice that I have been absent from LinkedIn. Now you know why.
Fortunately because I have a great team my business & my income has not suffered. But the marketing has. Because the push and drive is dependent on me. So over the next 6 months I will be working on this.
But here’s a fact. Most doctors and specialists rely on their medical skills to generate income. If those skills are not put to use the income dries up.
The silver lining from my illness is that I have realised that making sure there is a substitute for what I do is not just necessary but vital.
If you are a medical professional having other sources of income is not necessary but vital. Maybe we all should spend some time thinking about how you are going to do that.
